Masters & Workshops

All weekend!

We're delighted to welcome an amazing contingent of Master dancers from all over Aotearoa to Simply Weekend 2025. Our Masters will teach a roster of workshops across the weekend that will have you dancing like a pro at the Secret Agent Ball.

This year we're introducing an Advanced Workshop stream to the schedule. Advanced Workshops will include more advanced techniques and moves, and for that reason they will be restricted to the most experienced dancers only. See below for entrance criteria.

Advanced Workshops

This year for the first time we'll be running an advanced workshop stream at Simply Weekend.

⚠️ Hold up! These workshops assume a good understanding of advanced Modern Jive technique, and for that reason entry is restricted to only advanced dancers. Please check that you meet the criteria below to either take or experience these workshops. If you don't, you won't be attending these workshops.

If you have recently competed at an MJPI event at Level 3 or 4, you are invited to take the class as normal. You will be rotating through the class, and may ask questions.

If you do not meet this requirement, but you're dancing at an advanced level and have been assessed for your studio's most advanced class, then you can experience our advanced workshops. You must bring a partner with you, you will be dancing with this person for the whole class, and we ask that you save any questions you have until the workshop has concluded.

Ryan and Hannah present "Musical Onions"

Saturday | 9:00am – 10:15am

Music has many layers: Lyricism, percussion, melody, instrumentation, motifs, repetitions, syncopation, stories, energy shifts, Easter eggs and more! In this workshop we will explore how to get on the same frequency as your partner, acknowledge these different layers, and shape each dance to match the specific song you’re dancing to

Guido and Cherise present "TBC"

Saturday | 10:30am – 11:45am

TBC

James and Zoe present "Critical Timing"

Sunday | 10:30am – 11:45am

Use the nuance of the up and down beat to drive your musical play, ensuring that both parties communicate effectively, remaining in sync with both the partnership and the music. This workshop explores how to use the traditional structure of Modern Jive, while also playing with new advanced communication and partnership styles.

Dave and Amy present "TBC"

Sunday | 12:00pm – 1:15pm
